Gallery of Customs and Possibilities
This little custom APB5000 inspired the redesign which became the EPIC.
There are a lot of things going on with this chair, 14” wide, 16” deep, 14” STF, Tilt & Recline, fold down back, E Z Lock Interface. The biggest customization issue with the
old design, shortened wheelbase and switching rear wheel size. The same issue came
up with the yellow chair and several other custom chairs which required the ability to be self propelling chairs.
The EPIC eliminated those issues, permitting the wheels, wheel locks and anti-tippers to be moved as a unit by removal of two bolts per side. The adjustable wheelbase option includes an axle plate which can accomodate either 12" or 24" rear wheels.
Seat to Floor Height
Off the shelf components, shown in red on the left allow SFT adjustment form 16” to 19”. Higher STF's, shown in blue on the right, or lower SFT’s are easily accomplished with minor customization.
This interesting custom EPIC is the result of a request for a low STF chair that was to have the widest seat possible to go through a three foot wide door. The user, a 14 year old non-ambulatory, blind, 350 pound boy who lives on a farm and climbs in and out of the chair.
The result, 16” STF, static seat, 34 ½” overall width (outside wheels and forks), 24” wide seat which expands to 32” without increasing over all width, X-HD angle adjustable custom one piece center mounted flip up footboard and has oversize wide tires for use around the farm.
Power Tilt
The versatility of the EPIC design permits conversion to a power tilt a simple matter. The standard manual tilt pivot post are replaced by pivot post / actuator mounts and an upper actuator mount. The addition of the battery box makes the power tilt a simple matter.
Front Pivot Tilt
When the need does not require 45°
of tilt, be it foot propulsion or
simple positioning and
balance needs, the
front pivot tilt is
an option.
Seat Wider Than Base
When you have a wheelchair with seat width which prevents it from going through a door opening, it is no longer necessary to tear the house down. The SWB option will delivers a wheelchair several inches narrower for a given width than any other manufacturer can provide. Call to discuss details.
Carts
Carts are custom, period! Supine or prone, manual or power tilt we can design a custom cart to fill the needs of your client.
The power lift supine cart on the left is used by a man with severely fixed joint and spine. He uses arm brace crutches and backs into the tilted cart, standing on a small platform and is tilted into a supine position for transport.
The anterior tilt cart below is used by a severely deformed resident in a state facility. This cart has a 32” wide X 60” long platform frame and uses a custom molded seating insert, the person is fully supported when tilted 30°. The EPIC frame design allows for virtually unlimited wheelbase extension to provide maximum stability. The attendant friendly tilt handle and dual cable release makes tilting the cart from the side a comfortable easy task.
Since all carts are custom, the possibilities are virtually unlimited, including lateral tilt which can be combined with anterior tilt.
